Bob Dylan’s whiskey company, Heaven’s Door, is transforming a NuLu church into The Last Refuge, a whiskey bar and live music venue.
The former Refuge of Kentucky Church at 600 E. Market St. will be transformed over the next two years. Heaven’s Door also purchased the Zephyr Gallery next door, which will showcase art from local artists, as well as Dylan himself.
The first floor of the 150-year-old church will house a retail shop selling Heaven’s Door products, Dylan’s albums and books, and items from local artisans.
The second floor will be a music venue, and the gymnasium will house a whiskey bar and restaurant.
The Last Refuge is set to open in two phases, with the venue and bar opening in September and the gallery opening 18-24 months later.
