The latest Dragon Ball movie went Super Saiyan at the box office this weekend.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero took the #1 spot with $21 million – an impressive opening for an anime film.

Idris Elba’s survival thriller Beast came in second with $11.5 million.

Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train slipped to No. 3 with $8 million, followed by Top Gun: Maverick with $5.85 million and DC League of Super-Pets at $4.9 million.

Are you surprised to see a Dragon Ball movie topping the box office in the U.S.?  Does this mean we’ll see more anime movies, or is it more about a weak August movie lineup?
