Former Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist Dies at 64

Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Jack Sherman has died at the age of 64, the band announced. His cause of death has not been revealed.

“We of the RHCP family would like to wish Jack Sherman smooth sailing into the worlds beyond, for he has passed,” a band statement posted on Instagram reads. “Jack played on our debut album as well as our first tour of the USA. He was a unique dude and we thank him for all times good, bad and in between. Peace on the boogie platform.”

Sherman joined the band in 1983, replacing original guitarist Hillel Slovak, and co-wrote most of the material for the group’s self-titled debut. Although he also co-wrote most of the tracks for the 1985 follow-up, “Freak Styley,” he was fired before recording began. Sherman went on to perform on Bob Dylan’s 1986 album “Knocked Out Loaded” and returned to the Chili Peppers to provide backing vocals on their 1989 album “Mother’s Milk.”
