How Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” Almost Didn’t Happen

Believe it or not, one of the most popular rock and metal songs of all time almost never happened.

According to Metallica frontman James Hetfield, the world was close to not getting to hear “Enter Sandman.”

In a new interview with Masterclass, Hetfield shared that he wasn’t a huge fan of the song until drummer Lars Ulrich and producer Bob Rock had him go back and work on it.

The line “We’re off to never, neverland” is apparently what made the song work for Hetfield.

What would Metallica be like without “Enter Sandman?” How would “The Black Album” be different?
