Seven horses died in the lead-up to the Kentucky Derby, prompting an investigation by Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission.

Four of the horses were euthanized after sustaining injuries, while the other three died under mysterious circumstances.

The University of Kentucky will be conducting post-mortem examinations on the racehorses.

Churchill Downs is partnering with the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority to investigate the incidents and learn how to improve the safety of the sport.
