Here’s a fun little bit of rock trivia you may or may not know – the person who signed Deftones to their first record deal was none other than Madonna.
That’s right – the band signed with the pop star’s Maverick label in 1994.
Frontman Chino Moreno says the band’s demo tape somehow wound up in Madonna’s hands. He got a call at the record store where he worked and was told “Hey, Madonna wants to see you guys play.”
He calls the experience “surreal”: “The door opens, and Madonna walks in. So this was like, one of the first famous people that I meet is Madonna. Like, as a 10-year-old boy, all my fantasies are coming true.”
Did you know about the Madonna/Deftones connection? What are some other strange-but-true rock origin stories?
