New German Law to Make Walking Dogs a Requirement

A law that’s on the verge of being passed in Germany calls for pet owners to walk their dogs at least twice a day.

The legislation was introduced by the country’s agriculture minister, Julia Klockner, who says Germany’s 9.4 million dogs aren’t getting the exercise they need. If it’s passed as written, the law will require residents to walk their dogs for at least one hour twice a day.

Not everyone is on board with the proposed law. One dog owner, Cologne resident Walther Schweiz, says, “They should trust people to get on with their own lives. They’ll be telling cat owners how often they need to change their litter trays next.”
