Scientists Name Molecule After Nickelback

We all know Nickleback is an accomplished Canadian rock band with a string of hit songs and albums – but are they in fact responsible for all life on Earth?

Researchers at Rutgers University have been studying a ‘peptide’ – a molecule made of amino acids – they’ve nicknamed ‘Nickelback’ due to its two nickel atoms.

They believe the Nickelback peptide may be what first sparked life on Earth, billions of years ago.
