Smash Mouth Singer, Steve Harwell, Dead at Age 56

After battling medical complications for years, Steve Harwell has passed away at the age of 56.

Steve Harwell was a true American Original. A larger than life character who shot up into the sky like a Roman candle. Steve will be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom.

TMZ reported over the weekend, “A manager for the Smash Mouth lead singer tells us Steve has been struggling with alcohol abuse throughout his life — and now, he’s reached the final stage of liver failure … for which he’d, up until recently, been receiving treatment at a hospital.”

Sources close to Steve told TMZ he’d been battling ongoing health issues — stemming from a number of diagnoses he’d received over the years, including cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and Wernicke’s encephalopathy.

Harwell was in hospice care at home surrounded by loved ones when he passed.
