There’s a candy cane shortage. It’s because candy makers have been slammed during the pandemic.

They’ve been hit with high commodity prices, labor shortages, a weak peppermint crop and transportation and supply chain snarls.

This has prevented them from fully cashing in on the holiday season. In the past decade, the USDA says peppermint production in the United States has declined nearly 25%.
