Top Gun: Maverick continues to soar to new heights at the box office.

The Tom Cruise sequel just passed Avengers: Infinity War to become the 6th-highest-grossing movie all-time in the U.S.

Top Gun has raked in over $679 million in the U.S. and nearly $1.4 billion globally since its release in May.

It would need to earn another $20 million to overtake Marvel’s Black Panther for the #5 spot.

Why is Top Gun such an enduring box office hit?  Does it live up to all this hype?
