Why Can’t Phone Providers Shut Down Robocalls?

Phone providers have been trying for years to crack down on robocalls, and yet they still happen daily for most people – so why is it so hard to stop them?

Wired broke down some of the reasons why robocalls are tough to block.

Some companies are concerned that if they’re too aggressive about blocking robocalls, legitimate calls will be blocked as well – perhaps even an important call from the bank or a doctor’s office.

Another problem?  While the U.S. works hard to block robocalls, countries like India – where many such calls originate – are doing less.

One expert said “The only way we could ensure that we never get any robocalls ever would be that we don’t have phone calls at all“.

How many robocalls do you get in a typical week?  Is it getting better or worse?
