Why Eddie Vedder Hated Mötley Crüe and Hair Metal

Grunge is often thought to have “killed” hair metal. For Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, he still hates hair metal today.

In resurfaced remarks to ‘The New York Times’ in 2022, Vedder said, “You know, I used to work in San Diego loading gear at a club. I’d end up being at shows that I wouldn’t have chosen to go to (from) bands that monopolized late-1980s MTV. The metal bands that, I’m trying to be nice, I despised.”

He continued, “‘Girls, Girls, Girls’, and Mötley Crüe, I hated it. I hated how it made the fellas look. I hated how it made the women look. It felt so vacuous. Guns N’ Roses came out and, thank God, at least had some teeth.”

Do you agree with Eddie Vedder? Why or why not?
