Collins Dictionary has declared “lockdown” the Word Of The Year for 2020 after a sharp rise in its usage during the pandemic.
“It encapsulates the shared experience of billions of people.”
Other words in the running this year according to Collins: “social distancing”, “self-isolate”, and “furlough”.
