Billy Corgan Paid Off A Hacker To Prevent Album Leak

Billy Corgan says he paid a ransom to keep the new Smashing Pumpkins album from leaking early.

He revealed in a new interview that a hacker had gotten their hands on the album about six months ago, and that he paid “out of pocket” to stop the record from going public.

Corgan says he worked with the FBI to track down the hacker, who was also sitting on “other stuff from other artists”.

The album, ATUM: Act Three, was released last Friday.

If you had a chance to download a new album before its release date, would you do it?  Or would you wait for the ‘real’ release the artist intended?
