The Louisville Zoo welcomed Zemora, their new 5-year-old pygmy hippo, on July 8th!

Zemora comes from the Jackson Zoo in Mississippi.

Pygmy hippos are an endangered species, and according to zoo officials, less than 3,000 remain in the wild.

Pygmy hippos are just smaller versions of the common hippopotamus. Don’t let the “pygmy” part fool you, though. They can still weigh between 400 to 600 pounds and grow up to 3 feet.
