New Live-Action ‘Barney’ Movie Won’t Be for Children

Barney is making a comeback, but this time around, the dinosaur won’t be all about love and hugs.

Per The New Yorker, an executive from Mattel said a new Barney movie is in the works that’ll be geared toward adults.

The executive said, “We’re leaning into the millennial angst of the property rather than fine-tuning this for kids. It’s really a play for adults. Not that it’s R-rated, but it’ll focus on some of the trials and tribulations of being thirtysomething, growing up with Barney—just the level of disenchantment within the generation.”

The new Barney film will star Academy Award-winner Daniel Kaluuya.
