On This Date: Pearl Jam Plays Their First Gig

Friday, Dec. 22nd marks an important date in rock history – the first-ever performance by Pearl Jam.

On Dec. 22nd, 1990, the band performed together for the first time, opening up for Alice In Chains at the Moore Theatre in their hometown of Seattle.

They performed under the name ‘Mookie Blaylock’, taken from an NBA player.  They would change their name to Pearl Jam shortly after signing with Epic Records.

Their debut album, Ten, would come out in August of 1991.
