Police Seeing a Boom in Fireworks

If you feel like you’ve been hearing more fireworks going off lately, you’re not alone.

Police across the country say there is an explosion in the use of fireworks.

For example, in New York City there were more than 6-thousand calls to police in the past 3 weeks about fireworks, compared to just 27 in the same time period last year.

Police in Hartford, Connecticut say they are getting about 200 complaint calls a day.

In Pasadena, California, fireworks-related complaints have jumped 400% this month.

Officials say one theory is that people are just really bored and looking for a release after being cooped up during COVID-19.

Since many city/local 4th of July fireworks celebrations have been canceled because of the pandemic, are you planning your own backyard display?
