Scammers Are Texting People About IRS Tax Rebates

The FTC is warning Americans about a new texting scam about fake tax rebates.

Victims will receive a text promising a ‘tax rebate’ or ‘refund payment’ and are told to click a link to continue.

But the message is fake, and that link could expose you to malware or identity theft.

The IRS won’t call or text you without sending a letter first.  And in general, you should never click on any link texted by a number you don’t recognize.

If you receive a scam text, it can be reported at IdentityTheft.gov or ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Have you ever gotten a scam text or email?  How did you know it was a fake?
