Metallica has never been much for collaborations. Nearly every note you hear on a Metallica album is handled by one of the band members. But there are a few exceptions…

1997’s “The Memory Remains”, from Load, is the only Metallica song to feature a guest vocalist: Marianne Faithfull, who adds the haunting ‘la-la-lala-la’ refrain.

It’s the only Metallica vocal that’s not handled by James Hetfield or another band member – and in concert, it’s usually sung by the fans.
