One of the most groundbreaking albums in rock history turns 55 today – Electric Ladyland, by the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

The double album was released on Oct. 16th, 1968, featuring classics like “Crosstown Traffic”, “All Along The Watchtower”, and “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)”.

The album also became infamous for its controversial cover: while the U.S. version used a red-and-yellow closeup of Hendrix, the UK cover featured a group of naked women – which some stores refused to carry and Hendrix himself reportedly didn’t approve of.

What are some other controversial album covers?
