This week, astronomers captured the first-ever photograph of a black holes.

Now, fans have launched an internet campaign to name it after the late Soundgarden singer, Chris Cornell.

The petition makes sense, with the obvious connection to the Soundgarden song, “Black Hole Sun”.

Organizer, Guiliana Jarrin, says it would be “a ‘surreal’ and amazing way to honor his life and contribution to music”.

Unfortunately, the black hole already has a name – “Powehi”, a Hawaiian phrase meaning ‘the adorned fathomless dark creation’.

I think naming it after Chris Cornell would have been way cooler than Powehi, but the petition was too late.
